Serving as Director of the Clinical Neurophysiology Program, Dr. Nuwer joined the UCLA team in the mid-1970s.  He is the first neurologist to develop spinal cord intraoperative monitoring, reducing the risk of surgery by more than 60%.  He went on to pioneer critical care EEG monitoring.  Together with Epileptologist J Engel, they built the first commercial epilepsy monitoring unit.  In each case, these techniques spread from UCLA to worldwide use helping patients…
