Mario F. Mendez, MD, PhD, is a behavioral neurologist. His training is in internal medicine, neurology, neurobehavior, and experimental psychology. Dr. Mendez completed an internal medicine residency at USC-LAC Medical Center and briefly practiced medicine before returning to do a neurology residency at UCLA. Under the mentorship of D. Frank Benson, Dr. Mendez went on to do a neurobehavior fellowship. The development of research interests in brain-behavior disorders resulted in completing of the qualifications for a PhD in experimental psychology. Dr. Mendez is the Director of Neurobehavior at the VA Greater Los Angeles and Professor of Neurology and Psychiatry at UCLA. He directs the Focal-type Dementia Clinic and Program. His area of investigation is the clinical aspects of frontotemporal dementia, progressive aphasia, posterior cortical atrophy, and other focal cortical degenerative conditions.
